2025 State Championship Frequently Asked Questions
What Are The Dates?
Due to the new Honolulu City and County Rules & Regulations, we have to run 17 & Under divisions from April 23-27 and 18 and Older divisions from May 7-11.
Again, from April 23-27, 2025, we will run the following divisions:
- Boys & Girls Shortboard 11 & Under
- Boys & Girls Shortboard 12 - 13
- Boys & Girls Shortboard 14 - 15
- Boys & Girls Shortboard 16 - 17
- Boys & Girls Longboard 17 & Under*
- Boys & Girls Bodyboard 17 & Under*
- Boys & Girls SUP 17 & Under*
*The director might move the starred divisions to May 7-11 depending on the time left over from the live scoring divisions. Also these divisions will not have live scoring.
Again, from May 7-11, 2025, we will run the following divisions:
- Adaptive Surf
- All Adult (18+) Bodyboard Divisions
- All Adult (18+) SUP Divisions

How Do I Register?
To prevent competitors that are not eligible from entering, we have limited the registration by invitation only.
To be able to register, please fill out this form here: https://forms.gle/T6sxReEMDrPZtjdy7
Once you fill out the form please allow up to 48 hours to receive an email from Live Heats. We will need to verify first to see if you are eligible to register.
Log into your Live Heats Account, and then you should be able to register. Here is the link to register: https://liveheats.com/hsaoahu
If you do not have a Live Heats account, in order to generate one, you will need to select the ʻforgot passwordʻ option once you receive an email from Live Heats.
If you have any difficulty with registering, then please let us know so we can work out a solution for you.
When Will the Online Registration Close?
Registration will close on April 13th at 11:59 P.M. We will NOT guarantee you a spot if you notify us after the registration closes and/or change your mind after youʻve notified your respective island director that you are not coming.
Where Is It Going To Be Held?
It will be held at Ala Moana Bowls on Oahu.*
*Pending Approval by State DLNR and City and County Parks & Recreation
What Are the Prices?
It will be $225 for the following divisions (Live Scoring):
- Boys & Girls S.B. 11 & Under
- Boys & Girls S.B. 12-13
- Boys & Girls S.B. 14-15
- Boys & Girls S.B. 16-17
It will be $175 for the following divisions (No Live Scoring):
- L.B. Girls & Boys 17 & Under
- Open Men S.B. (Any Age)
- Men S.B. (18-29)
- Master S.B. (30-39)
- Senior Men S.B. (40-49)
- Grandmaster S.B. (50-59)
- Sr. Grandmaster S.B. (60+)
- B.B. Boys (14 & Under)
- B.B. Junior Men (15-17)
- B.B. Men (18 & Up)
- B.B. Open Women (Any Age)
- L.B. Open Men (Any Age)
- L.B. Men (18-29)
- L.B. Masters (30-39)
- L.B. Senior Men (40-49)

- SUP Boys (18 & Under)

If you surf more than one division, then it will be $100 per additional division. Here are a couple scenarios/examples:
- If you are eligible to surf the Boys S.B. 16-17 division and the L.B. Boys 17 & Under division, then you will pay $325 ($225 + $100).
- If you are eligible to surf the Sr. Grandmaster S.B., L.B. Legends, and L.B. Open Men; then you will pay $375 ($175 + $100 + $100).
What Time Does It Start?
All heats will start at 8:00 A.M. each day
What Are The Qualifications?
Each island varies, but for Oahu, you will need to have:
- Purchased the 2024-2025 Season Membership
- Paid for at least 5 Events
- Rank within the top 5 of your division for the live scoring divisions.
- Rank within the top 6 of your division for the non-live scoring divisions
- For the 17 & Under Girls Longboard division, if you are ranked 7 and below but participated in at least 5 events, please email or DM us if you want to participate at States.

For Big Island, Kauai, and Maui:
- We are taking top 5 for 17 & Under Shortboard Divisions.
- For the 17 & Under longboard, bodyboard, and SUP divisions we will take top 6
- All 18+ Divisions, we are taking top 6
What Day Are You Running My Division?
Itʻs too early to tell because the director goes based on projected wave heights, but we always aim to run all live scoring heats first, and then non-live scoring after weʻve completed the live scoring divisions.
What Are My Payment Options?
Registration will be done online only via Live Heats. They accept major credit/debit card companies.

Am I Allowed to Surf Up Divisions?
No, unfortunately we are allowing you to only surf divisions based on your age as of January 1, 2025
What Is Your Refund Policy?
We will NOT be providing refunds to any competitors UNLESS there is an emergency, the competitor is sick or hurt, or loss of a family member. Competitors will need to show us proof to receive a refund.
In the event of flight cancellation or delay, refunds WONʻT be issued. To ensure a smooth experience, we recommend booking your accommodations in advance.
What Division Do I Register For?
You register for the division based on the age you are as of January 1, 2025.
If you input your age correctly on your Live Heats Account, then the Live Heats will automatically populate divisions you are eligible for based on your age.
Can I Go On Stand By?
Yes, as long as you meet the qualifications (see the qualifications question). Please do not contact us via IG or email us. We will not put you on stand by if you do. See instructions on how to be put on stand by below:
For Oahu Competitors, we will put you on a standby list and you have until April 13th at 11:59 PM to let us know. We will prioritize based on ratings. Please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/gTBnpGxGjodPbzWUA
For all other islands, please contact your director, and then they will contact us on who qualifies to be put on Stand By.
For all standbys, you will have within 24 hours to respond and pay for your online registration. If we do not hear back from you within the 24 hours, then we will move onto the next standby person so please be check your emails/IG from April 14th.
For All Other Island Competitors, the Oahu director will contact your respective island director if your island needs stand bys.
Oahu Competitors Only - What if I Didnʻt Meet the 5 Event Minimum Due to Cancelled Events?
Please contact us because we do allow people to buy non-prime events to get last place points in order to meet the 5 minimum requirement.
You are not allowed to buy more events if you already attended at least 5 events.
For neighbor island competitors, please contact your island director on how you can qualify for States.
